December Reading Challenge

I’ve said it before: this year is out of control. How are we already in December? I have no control over time, but I can control what I do with what’s left of it. As you may know, I love pushing myself, and this month, I’ve decided to challenge myself through reading goals. Each year, we begin the new year with new resolutions. Let’s face it—I’ve never stuck with them. So instead, I decided I would end the year with a reading challenge.

Maybe it’ll change my mindset.

DECEMBER READING CHALLENGE

Why am I doing this?

reading challengeI want to say: Why not? Trying something new always offers valuable insights, whether you succeed or fail in your endeavor. I usually read 5 to 7 books a month, but this month, I want to take my monthly goal to a whole new level. Sooo…I have decided to triple it.

Yes! I didn’t say double. Where would the fun be in that? I said triple, ladies and gentlemen, which brings my goal to 15 books this month.

Am I crazy? Absolutely!

Is it realistic? Maybe not, but as I said, it’s a challenge. I won’t know if I can be successful if I don’t try.

Now, I’m not entirely insane. I started reading five of these books before I hit a reading slump a few months ago and never went back to them. I’m not starting at the very beginning with these, which puts me slightly ahead.

What am I going to read?

I chose these books in an attempt to motivate myself. So, no massive books (nothing with over 500 pages) and only selected stories I’m confident I will enjoy.

This list will likely change, but as much as possible, I will try to stick to it. The following books are mostly young adult novels (fantasy, sci-fi, and contemporary), with the exception of one middle-grades book. Because I write YA Fantasy novels, I primarily read in that genre, but not exclusively. Reading is very important when you write.

LIST

reading challenge

  1. The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli (YA Fantasy)
  2. What If It’s Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli (YA Contemporary)
  3. Map of Days by Ransom Riggs (MG Historical Fantasy)
  4. Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart (Book 1 – YA Fantasy)
  5. Rebel of the sands by Alwyn Hamilton (Book 1 – YA Fantasy)
  6. Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater (Book 3 – YA Fantasy)
  7. The Falconer by Elizabeth May (Book 1 – YA Fantasy)
  8. The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black
  9. Sadie by Courtney Summers (YA thriller)
  10. Cinder by Marissa Meyer (Book 1 – YA Sci-fi)
  11. A torch in the night by Sabaa Tahir (Book 2 – YA Fantasy)
  12. Warcross by Marie Lu (Book 1 – YA Sci-Fi)
  13. One of Us Is Lying by Karen (YA Crime and Mystery)
  14. Cat Woman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas (YA Sci-fi/comic)
  15. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (YA Contemporary)

I’m probably not going to follow this specific order because I’m a mood reader and will go with the book that compels me the most at that time.

reading challengeI’m about to wrap up The Last Namsara and will post my review before the end of the week.

Again, I don’t know if I’ll be able to complete this challenge, but I will try for sure and will post my reviews as it goes.

Wish me luck!
