Today, I’m honored to be part of the Seeker Book Blog Tour hosted by FFBC Tour. In this post, I asked Kim Chance a few questions I was dying to know about this book and her writing process. Mark your calendar because Seeker, the second book in the Keeper Duology, will be out in the world on September 10, 2019
Learn more about the book and check out the giveaway below. Now, let me (re)introduce you to Kim Chance and let’s hear what she has to say about her newest book.
Kim Chance, Author of Seeker – Interview
Where did you get inspiration/ideas for your book?
Honestly, I find inspiration everywhere! Music and art/photography are big ones for me, but I also love sitting in public places and people watching! You can come up with some really fun ideas just by observing those around you.
For Keeper& Seeker, I knew I wanted to write a story about witches, and I was heavily inspired by a lot of the paranormal shows I watched growing up: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Charmed. I can pretty much draw inspiration from anywhere, but those shows were a huge influence over me growing up and also greatly influenced both my books.
Was the second book easier for you to write and why?
Definitely not! In fact,
1) I was writing against my first publishing deadline— I wrote Keeper pretty much in a bubble over a ten year period. With Seeker, however, I was given a very tight six
2) I felt a lot of pressure and expectation— I struggled quite a bit from imposter syndrome and self-doubt. I was just so worried about making sure that my writing showed growth, but also that I wrote a satisfying conclusion to the story. It messed with my head quite a bit.
All in
What were the challenges you faced when writing the book?
One of the biggest issues I came across can really be chalked up to being a newbie writer. For years, I was so focused on book 1 that I didn’t really stop to fully develop and outline book 2. I had a general idea of what happened, but none of the specifics. This bit me in the bum quite a few times!
If I ever write a series again, I will 100% outline the entire thing before I ever write a word. I also really struggled with fixing a particularly large plot hole halfway through the drafting process. I managed to fix it, but I was blocked for weeks before I finally figured it out.
What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading two books! I’m reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt for my book club, and I’m also reading A Heart so Fierce and Broken
What is your writing process? And when do you write your best work?
I’m a hardcore plotter. I wish I could write more by the seat of my pants, but that’s just not my personality. If I’m not hyper-organized, the whole process gets really messy and I’m not able to be productive.
I do my best work at night. It’s not ideal, but I’m a mom of three and the evenings are the only time I can take off my “mom” hat and write freely without fear of interruptions. I’d love to be a daytime writer, but with small kids at home, that’s just not possible—at least for me!
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would it be?
Gryffindor, Enneagram 2, & ENFJ
I know, I know, I sorta cheated on this one. I know you were expecting adjectives for the answer, but honestly, those things tell you everything you ever wanted to know about me!
When did you first consider yourself as a writer?
I’ve pretty much always been a writer! When I was a kid, I used to keep a diary, and I would write short stories and poems all the time.
Writing has always been how I process the world around me. It wasn’t until my early 20s though that I considered myself a fiction writer!
What would be your advice for new writers?
It sounds so cliché, but don’t ever give up. Writing and publishing books isn’t an easy process, and most of time, you’re going to hear “no” way more than you’ll ever hear “yes.”
BUT you have to keep going. If you want it bad enough, you have to fight for it.
Don’t ever give up. Just keep writing!
Thank you so much, Kim Chance, for taking the time to answer these questions and congratulations on this new book!
Synopsis
“A fun, high-stakes, often surprising thrill ride.” —Kirkus Reviews

But as she struggles to cope with her new role as Keeper and the uncontrollable power it gives her, Lainey realizes that magic does indeed leave a mark—but it’s not always physical.
Ty isn’t one of the good guys. He’s done terrible things, and he won’t stop until he gets what he wants. Even if it hurts. Even if it means betraying the girl he loves…again.
For Maggie, all her comic book dreams have come true, and her new life as a Shifter is just beginning. But with war closing in, is it truly a dream or a death sentence?
In the ultimate battle for power, Lainey, Ty, and Maggie must face-off against the Master, and work together to discover the greatest weapon of all.
