Book Review – Fate, Fame, and the First Kiss by Kasie West

Fame, Fate, and The First Kiss

Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss is a young adult contemporary romance written by the amazing Kasie West. She is one of my “auto-buy” authors, the queen of YA romance. I have devoured all of her books and highly recommend reading anything from her. The novel was released on February 5, 2019, and is published by HarperTeen.

Synopsis

Fame, Fate, and The First Kiss

Lacey Barnes has dreamt of being in a movie for as long as she can remember. However, while her dream did include working alongside the hottest actor in Hollywood, it didn’t involve having to finish up her senior year of high school at the same time she was getting her big break. Although that is nothing compared to Donavan, the straight-laced student her father hires to tutor her, who is a full-on nightmare.

As Lacey struggles to juggle her burgeoning career, some on-set sabotage, and an off-screen romance with the unlikeliest of leading men, she quickly learns that sometimes the best stories happen when you go off script.

Review

Fame, Fate, and The First Kiss

Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss is about Lacey Barnes, a seventeen-year-old actress who lands the role of a lifetime co-starring in a movie with a big-name actor. Hoping that this role is the beginning of an acting career, she must prove herself to the director. Unfortunately, she also discovers what it means to be in the industry. Between bad press, a demanding (and worried) father, and finishing high school, she is under a lot of pressure. As she realizes that someone is trying to sabotage her on the movie set, a new tutor comes in her life. She doesn’t know yet how much her life is about to change.

The story was a pleasant read, but the book is probably the one from this author I have least enjoyed. The story is well written, and the plot keeps you on your toes. The characters are absolutely adorable. All of them! I really enjoyed the narrative, but unfortunately the world in which it occurs did not interest me. And that’s a personal taste that has nothing to do with the author, because in all honesty, this is a good book.

Still, I’d recommend it for sure because Lacey Barnes is very funny and the romance is a swooner. The only thing I struggled with is the location: Hollywood. I live close by, so I try to read about things that are outside of what I know. I want to be impartial about the book, especially when there is nothing negative I can say about it except that this story was not for me.

Maybe This Time is my next read from this author. Also, keep in mind that when you enjoy reading a particular author so much, your expectations skyrocket because you know they can deliver, and Kasie West does deliver. I hope you’ll read it, because it has everything a cute romance has to offer.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
