Review
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Empire of Storms is a Young Adult (YA) fantasy novel and book #5 in the Throne of Glass series written by Sarah J. Maas.
Disclaimer: This review doesn’t contain any spoilers, and the opinions expressed are my own. I purchased this book.
Empire of Storms is probably the best of the series. First of all, let me says that so much happens in this book that your head will spin, and the story challenges the characters on so many levels. The author doesn’t hesitate to raise the stakes for each of them. You’ll cry when some characters are broken, and others are mended. All of the characters are flawed yet relatable. This book made me cry and laugh, and the way the story unfolds leaves the reader breathless on every page. The romance blossoms in beautiful ways with some scenes that are probably more appropriate for new adult than young adult, but that is a known characteristic of this author’s work. The ending is mind-blowing and heart-wrenching.
Overall, this book met all my expectations, and I highly recommend it.
In reading Empire of Storms, I believe you can glimpse how—or at least where—the story will end, but I could be wrong. The last book (book #7), Kingdom of Ash, is set to be released on October 23, 2018. I’m beyond excited to read how the author will conclude this epic story.
Please keep in mind…
Of course, you’ll need to start at the beginning of the series if you’re not familiar with these books, but doing so will be 100% worth the time. I highly recommend reading Assassin’s Blade before Throne of Glass. I believe Assassin’s Blade was released later, but this book explains what happened before Throne of Glass. It helps you better understand the story and the main character.
What’s next for me? Tower of Dawn (book #6) is my next read. I want to finish this series this month. At least, that’s my goal.
“The fear of loss . . . it can destroy you as much as the loss itself.”
