LM Durand Interview

A.G. Kirkham discusses the first book of her Satan’s Pride Series.

A.G. Kirkham picture interviewA. G. Kirkham was born in a very small town in Italy and came to Toronto, Canada, at the age of three. Her favorite time in school was getting lost in the books. That feeling has never left, and she has been writing short stories and poems from an early age.

Her world is filled with off-beat friends and family who make her life zany and unique-all the better for enhancing the creativity in her work! She was always the “good” girl growing up, and somewhere along the way her “rebel” girl has emerged in her books and in life.

Reveling in the wonders of a loving family and writing each day bring profound joy into every day. She considers herself blessed in every way.

Tell us more about you and what ignited your passion for words.

 .

I believe my passion started when I was in school.  I was from Italy and my parents only spoke Italian at home.  When I was in school I really struggled in reading and writing.  As a matter of fact one teacher told me that I would never be a very good student.

.

Well, I can tell you that the one thing I jump at is a challenge.  I worked really hard and read everything I could get my hands on.  The following year I had a fabulous teacher that asked the class to write about anything at all but make sure that we were passionate about it. I spent so much time looking for a topic and I agonized over what I wanted to write about.  When I finally settled on the topic of fairness, the words I wanted to write came easily to me and I thrived.

 .

I received the highest grade in the class but it was the one phrase on the paper by my teacher that encouraged me to continue finding my voice in words.  “Your writing has a profound view. I read it over and over.”  That was enough.  I was hooked!

 .

.

What type of books are you writing? Can you tell us more about it or where we can find it if already published?

 .

I write adult romance novels.  I believe in love and my secret wish is that each one of us finds that special person that makes them tingle with excitement every time they are together.

 .

The particular series I am writing is based on more mature men and women.  I am writing about heroines that are 35 and older in age.  I want my women to have experienced happiness, sadness, suffering and joy.  I want them to be real women with realistic concerns and emotions.  Since I am a hopeless romantic I want them to fall in love with not perfect men, but men perfect for them. I have made my “bad” boy characters all part of a motorcycle club because I love Harley’s!  I want men and women to know that falling in love is exciting at any age.

 .

.

Would you mind sharing a high, a low or something special you experienced writing this book?

 .

My greatest high came after I completed my writing.  It was after several weeks and as I was reading it I was falling in love with it even more.

My low came from the intensity I was showing for this book as I was writing.  I was shutting myself off with total purpose for only.  In all things we need balance and I was seriously messing up the balance.  I learned quickly!  Balance restored!

 .

.

Are you working on anything new? At which stage are you with this new project?

 .

I am currently working the next book in the series and it is in the editing process at the moment.  It is called “War”.  There are a total of seven in the “Satan’s Pride” series.

 .

.

What advice would you give a new writer?

 .

Believe in yourself and make sure you love your work.  At the end of the day, when I pick up “Guard” and read it, I love the words I wrote and the story it tells.

 .

.

Besides writing, what do you most enjoy doing? Can you tell us something about what you do outside of writing?

 .

I love music.  I love to hear the lyrics and feel the passion of those talented people who can create such beauty. I spend a lot of time with my family and friends. We have so much fun together! I also like to travel.  I feel renewed when I sit by the water and just look at the expanse of sea.  I feel at peace when I can just sit and admire it all.

AG Kirkham interview

Guard: Satan’s Pride is to impress the ideals of how our past affects our present and future relationships. It brings to light the greatest necessity to moving forward, which is to surrender ourselves to possibilities.

Meeting incredible new people and learning to let go and enjoy in the moment are the highlights of life. The story of Guard and Ava is that of two people surrendering and finding the courage to explore their desire and meaning for themselves and one another.

  1. Loved the book Anna. I can’t wait to read “War”. You are inspiring! Reading your novel had me lost in another world, one in which I feel in love with the characters and their lives.
